In the near future, sixteen-year-old Elowen Hart, a pure Human, lives in Florida’s Human Sector One. Lonely and secretly battling persistent anxiety and panic attacks, she moves to the beachy town of Clearwater to reconnect with her mother and repair their strained relationship. Now that she’s starting junior year, Elowen is finally taught the truths about the deep divide between Humans and Links (Human Hybrids with advanced synthetic neural pathways in the brain) and the flickering containment wall that separates them.

As the influx of information sends her into overdrive, Elowen meets Xander, another new student who’s intriguing, incredibly handsome, and most importantly, makes her laugh. It doesn’t take long for Elowen to develop an attraction for him, only to discover his shocking secrets. Xander is a Link-2, a new advanced model, who fled the Link territory to escape his lunatic uncle’s revenge.

Even with the warning signs and family baggage, Elowen disregards the red flags and plunges headfirst with her heart. She alone guards Xander’s dangerous secrets. But separation is the law of the land, and love between Humans and Links is punishable by death.
